September 17, Great Vermont Corn Maze

We left our quiet, secluded, RV site ready to take on the Great Vermont Corn Maze! Jeff has been telling me all about corn mazes for years, and I have never done one. It just sounds fun, right? Well, it was! We put the info in our phone, and the nav system automatically takes us off on side roads, which made me a bit nervous. We found a trail of gravel roads, but eventually found our destination.

I managed to park the Beast, pottied the dogs, and went on in. There were not a lot of people there, as we were there shortly after they opened. They recommend starting early, as they begin pulling people out around 3:30 so that they can close on time. So, they don't leave anyone in there unaccounted for! Thank goodness.....

Recycle man met us outside!

Ok, let's go!
The corn was very tall, some of the tallest we have seen. Much of it was 10' or more. We ended up walking about 6 miles trying to find our way through the 10 acre corn maze. And, sadly, we ended up taking a couple of hints from one of the moderators!

We found a couple bell's of frustration!

And there was a nice ocean vessel out in the corn...

After we went through the tunnel, we learned we should
not have passed through it.

You can see the White Mountains from the bridge over a bit
of the maze. Acres of corn!
Eventually, we did find the end! I think the first half was the hardest to solve, as we just sort of blew through the second half.

After ringing the bell's of frustration, we had to
ring the bell of success!

The theme for the year was dinosaurs.

Once you were out, the views were tremendous!

Jeff celebrating with last years mascots.

Casper, the friendly goat.

An aerial view of the maze.
This was loads of fun! If you ever get a chance to do one, do it! They don't have many rules, but they had a few. And there was an emergency way out if you really needed to get out quickly!

From there, we made our way back to the highway and headed east towards New Hampshire.

I know that I have been in New Hampshire before, but I have not made it into the White Mountains before! Jeff and I took a hike up a hill here, and had to climb a ladder on the stone, then pop up through a hole to the top, where the views were amazing. But, we were south of the White Mountains.  All I can say is OMG! What a beautiful, amazing mountain range! I had no idea. I think I already mentioned that I may have been a mountain snob, thinking the mountains in the Rockies and west were the only "real" ones..... I am so wrong! This is such a beautiful place. If it weren't for the winters, it might be wonderful to live here! And the rivers and streams are just gorgeous! Full of boulders, and sandy bottoms. So pretty! Wish we had more pics, but it's really tough to capture much when you are driving.

We passed a number of interesting things while on our way through New Hampshire. And, we are still really loving the homes here! We went through one little town called Bethlehem. The first sign announcing the town said it was established on December 25, 1799. So cool. And a very pretty little town!

This looks like red brick, but it is actually red shingles!

And I sent Jeff back to get a pic of this!

Some other cool stuff we saw on our way....

This was a huge resort!

Metal art?
There were a few really cool houses on our trek today. The styles are changing a bit, but not much. Many frame dwellings.

I love the old schoolhouse home!

We also stopped to eat at a place in one of the small NH towns. Mexican food! They didn't bring chips to your table, unless you ordered them, but that was no big deal. The food was most excellent! And they had some interesting beers. And several flavors of mead. I wanted to try it, but didn't order one as I wouldn't drink but a bit. I had scallops, which were really, really spicy, and quite good. Jeff had tacos, and he loved them. Just a little jewel on the road just outside of North Conway.

As we were driving through one of the little town, which was completely about the views of the mountains, the sun began to set. It seemed like every building in town was situated to catch that sunset over the White Mountains!

We were looking for an RV park that we had found on the Good Sam site. I think we blew right past it! But just up the road, was a sign for another one. We pulled in there and found ourselves on the Saco River. There was no one at the office, so we called and she said she would send someone over, just pick a site. So, we did. No one came. Went by the office again in the morning an hour after they were supposed to open, and no one there. Hmmmm..... It was a very nice little park, and we were also secluded in the trees right next to the river!

We also managed a couple of mailbox pics for today! Yeah!
