September 11, WE MADE IT!

I never had any doubts that we would make it. I think Jeff did, but I always had full confidence in him. Especially after watching him complete the Last Vol State run across Tennessee last year with bloody blistered feet! And if you are following the blog, you know that we actually arrived in the city last night. Jeff wanted to arrive at Ground Zero early, as usual. And, as usual, I was not as early a riser! But, I still woke up in time for the sunrise!

Sunrise over Central Park.
Even after all our preparations, and having a couple people trying to get us access, we did not get into the actual ceremonies. Being outside in the plaza was still pretty cool! We just mixed around and talked to other people there, especially the fire fighters (all in full dress!) and the reporters.

We never saw any major networks out there, but assume they were inside at the ceremony. We did talk to a number of the news agencies that were out in the plaza. Several did short interviews, also. We are still trying to get the word out about our non-profit! If you can help spread the word, please do so! Share our blog and page with all your friends and business associates.

After a few hours spent down there, people were moving off. There really wasn't a crowd as there has been in the past, anyway. We decided to go grab some lunch, then go back to the RV and take care of the dogs. We walked, used phone apps, and still could not find a restaurant in that area! We were in the financial district, so I guess there were mostly little walk ups, and we wanted to sit down. We wound up in a Chipotle.... lol.

We did manage to cruise back by Central Park, and get a couple other random pics of NYC. I know Jeff wanted to see the Empire State Building, and we missed that. He also wanted to get out to Liberty, but we didn't. We did manage to get pics of Liberty from our RV parking lot, though! Here are some random things we took in NYC.

At the Ground Zero Memorial gift shop.

These were stacked at the bottom of the man on horse.

But because of the fence, we don't really know what
this was.

Central Park.

Central Park, and that is not Jeff running!

The bull of Wall Street. It was quite popular!

I noticed this memorial to a firefighting company
through the fence.

And this was one of our cool cab drivers! They all were friendly, but this guy was really nice!

And we have at least one pic of Mickie and I hanging out on the subway!

Ha! Didn't notice the stethoscope over Nurse Mickie!

Later, back at the RV parking lot, we did some chilling out! Jeff aired out his feet, and the dogs were very excited we were all there!

After resting a bit, Jeff and I walked over to see the Statue of Liberty from the dock. I have never been over there, only having passed it on the ferry. Maybe next time we will visit her.

It is pretty anti-climactic to now be done. Wondering what we will do tomorrow? So are we! We have a month to wait for the Fallen Firefighter Memorial down in Emmitsburg. And, as much as I hate to admit it, I don't like being in the City. It is so foreign to what I know! And it is noisy and confusing, and very fast paced. Some people thrive on that, I know, but I am not one of them I guess.

We decided to walk a couple blocks down the street to Edward's Steakhouse, there in Jersey City. It was such a cool little place, in the basement floor of a brownstone building. And you go through the bar area, to the back room for seating, and it is something out of the Godfather or Sopranos! And, the clientele were mostly groups of men, perhaps on a business trip, eating and drinking. The more they drank, the louder they got! The food was excellent! And they were very, very accommodating to our requests. I recommend it if you are in the area.

On the way home, of course it was dark. So, instead of leaving you with a Mailbox of the Day, which we didn't see, I will leave you today with a view of the Tribute in Light to the 9-11 victims.
