June 6, Cascades

Today was a beautiful day! In fact, the weather has been phenomenal the entire week. Starts out coolish, or down right cold at altitude, then warms up and the sun just shines.... I understand they get a lot of rain here, but so far it has not rained on us.

This highway is heavily traveled, particularly by logging trucks. Most of them are very polite, and I try to pull off and let the trucks by, because I am usually going slower. That is really the best way, since places to pull off the road and wait for Jeff, are pretty scarce. And, when one slips up, I'd better be ready! Or I will miss it. I am getting good at turning this Beast around, though!

We went through the Cascades today. Poor Jeff had some amazing hills to climb! But, when you go up, you get a good downhill on the other side! We saw some great landmarks, such as Mt. Washington, the Pacific Crest Trail, Sutton Lake, and Sahalie Falls.

We had some trouble finding an RV site for tonight. Since we had been at the National Park camp ground last night, with no hook ups, we were essentially out of water and needed to have services. There was really nothing on the route that would work. So, we drove up a side road to Camp Sherman, as they looked like they had an RV park. Well, they did, but they were so far off the beaten path that there was no internet/phone. It had come and gone all day, coming up the highway, but got better and better the closer we got to Sisters. We decided we just had to get some of this stuff done, so went on back towards town. As we were driving through, I noticed a group of RV's off in the trees. We circled back, and sure enough, there was an RV park there! It was right in town, in fact it is a city park. Full hook ups! Yay! And, we ran into a couple of cyclists that are riding across country. One of them, we ran into a couple days ago. He was taking a short rest here.

And, we had Mexican food at a restaurant here in Sisters, a couple blocks away. It was awesome! Even the hot sauce had more flavor than many you find at home. I always love stumbling across little jewels like that!
