We managed to distract ourselves enough that we didn't make Massachusetts. But we did have a good time! Our first stop was, what else, a fire station! And there were people there! It was great. They invited us in and everyone came out for our pic!
Our next stop was in Cape Elizabeth, at a place called Two Lights. I never saw the second one.
As you might imagine, this was a rocky shore. I found the rock formations pretty interesting, also. It really looked like just one giant petrified tree! Just layers and layers of ages old sediment, I guess. When we walked up, I thought that the trail was covered with mulch, but soon discovered that it wasn't mulch at all. It was little bitty pieces of the stone that had flaked and was covering the ground. I would love some of THAT mulch! The area was quite beautiful.
Also at that area was a restaurant, which has apparently gained quite a following. Since it was lunch time, we decided to eat there. It was pretty good. And the line just grew and grew! We were able to sit out on picnic tables and eat in the sunshine.
When we were done with lunch, we checked out the little gift shop. There were some interesting little items, but we didn't buy any thing.
We saw a couple other interesting things as we went down the road. So many things that we said, hey, that would make a great pic! But, we were unwilling to back track to get it. I am already driving slow enough to irritate the locals, and they drive slow!
This big guy was selling things along the way. |
We also found the cruise ships! This is still in Portland as we were leaving. |
We couldn't visit the area without swinging through Kennebunkport! I was so hoping to see the Bush's, but didn't. In fact, surprisingly, this was such a tourist destination, and an incredibly cute little town, there was no place to park the beast and walk around. There were signs along the side of the road where cars parked that RV parking was not allowed. I looked for a while before giving up. We would have liked to have walked around and checked out the town a bit more.
Since we had spent the last night in the Walmart parking lot, we opted to find a real RV park for the night. It was either that or find one to use the dump.... might as well just stay every now and then, right? We ended up in the Sea-vu RV Park in Wells, Maine. A very nice little place. We cooked a nice dinner, Jeff had a snack, and we went to bed. It is now becoming dark around 7 pm, so staying up is tough! I guess if we ever watched TV.....
So I have no parting shots of mailboxes, or sunsets, or anything like that. I am slipping! Must try harder.... :)
