September 1, Hills of Pennsylvania

We left the Walmart parking lot this morning in New Castle, and headed east. Jeff left quite early, but I think he went to the McDonald's for some breakfast. I got some coffee there a bit later, then followed him out. We were actually on small 2 lane highways and other roads all day. It was great! One road didn't even have stripes.

New Castle was a pretty large town, actually. They had a lot of things to see, and some interesting buildings. I went off route to find a laundromat, and found a really nice, new one in an area that was a little run down. But the people in there were really, really nice! The Walmart we parked at overnight was on the west side of town, so we pretty much went all the way through this morning. There is a really nice river that runs through the town, also.

We are fully into the hills now. They are fully wooded hills, too! Makes it more challenging to get good pics!

I am happy now to see changes in the road ahead!

We visited Slippery Rock. It turned out to be a pretty interesting little college town. This is where we stopped for lunch, which is something that we don't do often. Especially now that we are pressed for time! But, we had lunch at a nice little brewery with some interesting things in the garden outside. When I asked for the check, and Jeff took off, the waitress brought the bill back to me with $0.00 on it. Confused, I asked her what that meant. She told me that another diner had taken care of our lunch! So, thank you anonymous benefactor!

Love the little planter!

Is the sign for us or for the cemetery?

Being sort of in the countryside, there are plenty of little townships, but they are really little! I'm not sure that the population is as dense as it was in Ohio! Sometimes they were really no more than a couple houses.... and a volunteer fire department!

Love these signs!

There are some interesting things that people do to their landscapes. Some are really quite cute, but others are just eccentric. Either way, they are interesting!

A family war memorial.

Bird condos!

The homes are not changing much. I assumed there would be a change in design, at least a bit, as they got older. So far I have not found that to be true.

It is really cool to see flowers that Jeff has to look UP to! And then I keep seeing these pretty little orange ones, too. Don't know what they are.

We headed to an RV park that I found on the internet, in a town called Emlenton. It was almost exactly the distance we needed to be at! Once we arrived, we found that the highway was closed as they were re-doing the bridge over the Allegheny River. We made it to the RV park, but Jeff's route out tomorrow is not happening! So, we had to reroute back the way we came for a few miles simply to find another bridge other than the interstate. Bummer. But it is nice to have internet and electricity! And an accessible dump for the morning.

Jeff is having a lot of trouble with his iPhone interacting with Facebook. He tries multiple times to upload pics, and it just crashes out of Facebook. Any one with any idea why this is happening? I have no problem, but he takes the pics! Consequently, we lose several a day now. Not to mention the aggravation. I think he needs a new phone.... but that probably wouldn't help in this case. Maybe this is happening because we are getting so many good pics for the blog it is getting too long??? Lol.... Hope you all enjoy them as much as we do!

I was worried. The only Mailbox of the Day pics were on the last upload, which I know he tried a dozen times before it finally went. But, here they are!
