I ended up getting up and showered, and was on my way over
to the hotel lobby to do some WIFI business, when Jeff texted me that they were
back and over at the breakfast lobby. That worked out really well, although
with Jeff back, I didn't have much time to do anything on the computer. David
went off to his meeting and Jeff and I took off for Calhan.
I have to reiterate that it was awesome to have a friend do
a work around so that they could catch up with us on the road! I hope that it
happens again!
The drive back out there didn't take all that long, so with the mountains behind us, Jeff's feet were slapping the pavement once again.
There are numerous small towns along this secondary highway.
However, they were born for the railroad. When the railroad went away, and even
picked up their rails, the towns began a slow, agonizing death. It was really
sad.
The railroad literally removed their rails. |
There were some bright spots in these towns, though. At one,
Jeff made friends with a local firefighter.
And in another, there were a couple of old time diner
restaurants. We didn't stop, though.
The road ahead was no different than the day before.... we
have finally hit the plains! And it is really pretty windy out here! I thought
the Robson Ranch wind was impressive.
I loved that the Road Ahead was lined with happy flowers! |
A windsock for the driveway.... |
There were even real cowboys doing real cowboy stuff with
real horses! And there are some beautiful horses out here. Just down the road
from Broadway, too.
The scenery is pretty, but gets tiresome. Most areas there
is nothing but pasture, then there will be the odd crop.
And still plenty of artsy stuff. I haven't gone into many of
the old museums, though. I think maybe I should start doing that. There might
be some interesting stuff there, too..
And for you all that look forward to the Mailbox of the Day,
pay dirt! Plenty of creative designs in the little towns.
