July 18, A Good TV Interview

This morning, Jeff got out very early, with the knowledge that it was a good, long, steep downhill ahead of him to start the morning!

I caught up with him at the bottom.... which was the little town of Alma, and is billed as the "highest" town in the country. Granted, there wasn't all that much of a downhill after the pass. About a thousand feet, and we were in a long, high valley. I found a little coffee shop in Alma, and waited for Jeff. Figured coffee and a breakfast burrito sounded great. While ordering, the guy at the back said, "oh, you're that guy in the paper today"! So, he just happened to have several copies of the Summit Daily News. Now he has one less! But it is cool to be recognized. That is happening a lot here in Colorado.

Alma is another interesting little town, lots of mining history. And like many small towns of this type, they are collecting some eclectic artistic types of folks.

We followed the Blue River for a while here. I have yet to see an ugly river around here!

After Alma, we pressed on toward Fairplay. There was a TV reporter from Denver channel 9 that called, and was going to meet us in Fairplay to do a story. He actually tracked Jeff down right in front of a hair salon. Since I was badly in need of a trim, I popped in. They were all excited because the TV guy was out in front, and apparently they knew who he was. Matt Renoux from Denver 9news. The interview was awesome, and you can find a link to it on our Facebook page.

Fairplay was an interesting town. Apparently the TV show Southpark, has some connection to it. They have a whole section of old town that is the Southpark town. I've never watched the show, so I didn't really understand it much.

Somewhere along the road, Jeff managed to find something strange. Middle of the valley, middle of the summer, and he finds a ski pole on the side of the road! Of course, the flower of the day was a piece of cake out here!

Wildlife is still pretty prolific. Those little marmots, or whatever they are called, are everywhere! Jeff actually managed to get a pic of a chipmonk, though. And we finally figured out where all of the Mosquitoes are coming from!

Jeff met more cyclists crossing the country. There seem to be a lot of them! I guess it doesn't take as much time as running. Most people do have jobs to get back to!

And Zada looks like she is trying to get closer to Jeff. Guess the seat smells like him, and she has her nose buried!
